Warming Cherry Berry Smoothie Bowl

This morning I woke with cold feet and a cold nose.  There was a crisp chill on the air that comes along with the changing colours of the leaves and I immediately wanted something warm and comforting to nourish my body.  Autumn has finally arrived and the days of cold refreshing smoothies will become few and far between in the weeks ahead.
Unfortunately my daughter didn’t feel the same way and began begging for a “red smoothie bowl” which made my body shudder.
And so this warming cherry berry smoothie bowl was born.  Its deep burgundy hues and rich warm cherry flavours were perfect for my chilly soul.  Thankfully my smoothie minded 2 year old was pleased and we were both warmed and nourished.

Recipe (serves 2)
½ cup pitted cherries
½ cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
1 banana
Handful of baby spinach leaves
3/4 -1 cup coconut milk (depending on desired level of smoothie thickness)
1 tsp maple syrup
TO GARNISH
Fresh figs
Cacao nibs (omit for AIP)

Method
Place all ingredients in a high speed blender or food processor and blitz until well combined.
Now place the smoothie into a small saucepan and simmer over a low heat until perfectly warm and comforting.  Alternatively you may wish to pop this into a microwave safe bowl and heat until your desired level of warmth is achieved.
You can absolutely consume this cold if preferred!
Garnish with fresh figs and cacao nibs and tuck
in.
